Free Language Assessment for Internationally Educated Health Professionals
Free Language Assessment has been postponed. Please check the website at a Later Date for Specific Test Dates.
Participants Needed
The Government of Ontario is funding a project at the Michener Institute to conduct validation studies on a health care specific language assessment. The Michener English Language Assessment (MELA) assesses the communication skills of test takers in the context of health care practice in Canada. By using the context of health care, the MELA will be fairer to future international educated health professionals seeking professional credentials in Canada by allowing them to demonstrate their language skills within a familiar and relevant context.
LCRT Consulting is currently conducting a research study to help The Michener Institute evaluate the validity of a new version of MELA to be used as a test for proof of English language proficiency for professional registration and admission to training programs. LCRT Consulting is launching a new version of MELA in 2012.
LCRT Consulting is looking for volunteers who are:
- internationally educated health professionals,
- non-native speakers of English
- currently enrolled in health care related training programs in Ontario and
- from the general population who are
- from various language backgrounds,
- age and gender.

This study is not part of any course requirements. Your decision to participate does not affect course grades or professional licensure/registration. There is no anticipated risk to you for this research. Your identity will be kept confidential although aggregate data from this study may be published. You will not have to complete any part of the study materials that you do not feel comfortable with. Also, you have a right to discontinue participation in this project at any time you wish to stop.
